Friday 4th August – walks **** Felixstowe prom and Hemley circuit – sunny early then heavy shows with thunder.

Walk 1 – Sunrise Felixstowe prom walk to see new Ferris Wheel.

The much talked about new ferris wheel in Felixstowe has been quickly erected and was a complete circle yesterday, the only thing missing being the the seating pods, so I was keen to head down early to photograph it in its first sunrise:) I woke at 4.40, looked out the window and it did not look very promising being pretty cloudy but as I was awake decided to go anyway and am glad I did as I was treated to a nice sunrise, in fact it was the best part of the day as it quickly clouded over and the heavy rain with thunder arrived! It was really pleasant walking down the prom to the large wheel which really does dominant Felixstowe seafront but it does not look out of place and I like it,, might even take the Grandson on it when he visits again:) Being so large it was challenging getting it all in the frame especially as the sun rises at the other end of Felixstowe towards The Fludyers but I got some OK pics and was hoping to get one on the local TV weather but was sadly disappointed:( I ambled back for an early breakfast and to short my pics out only to discovered Mag had also headed out on a walk but she went the other way towards the Spa gardens!
For the third weekend in a row strong winds are forecast, Storm Antoni with heavy rain especially tomorrow we were keen to make the most of the day and were hoping to get out on our bikes, after doing my exercises, mainly in the back garden, rain did interrupt me at one point I then packed a picnic but after a speel of heavy rain we decided agaist going out on the bikes!

Walk 2 – Hemley circuit in the rain.

With the bikes shelved we decided to take our picnic to the lovely Hemley church just 8 miles from Felixstowe to enjoy the view. We enjoyed lunch in the van as the showers continued, we even had some thunder and had a good laugh about all the funny comments on Facebook about there being so many pics of the new ferris wheel:) Then we had a spell of better weather and decided on risking a walk and headed down past the farm with houses down to the River Orwell. There was a menacing dark cloud behind use and it was muddy underfoot and the rain soon caught us up and we got really wet, we had such a laugh too, it was great being out in the rain and not surprising we had it all to ourselves! We had to walk all the way along the country path a little inland with the rain getting harder, luckily the walk is only a mile and a half so we were soon back at the van. Then back to Felixstowe in really heavy rain making a detour to Felixstowe Ferry, there were loads of golfers out getting wet too. Someone sadly had a bad day on the River Deben when their small fishing boat sank, it is presantely just visibale right on the edge of the sailing channel! Then home to dry out and get a welcome cuppa, what a top day we had :)
